The Haiti International Film Festival Bi-Annual Film Series will showcase two films by award-winning Haitian directors. The event will be held on November 18th, at 7 PM, at the Complex Theater in Los Angeles.

SHORT FILM: Hard Hittin Harry, Directed by Richard Louissaint. This short documentary depicts the experience of a Haitian-American DJ in Brooklyn. It displays the resilience of Haitian culture through music. Richard Louissaint is also the producer of the Haitian Creative Series. Through this work, he is changing the narrative of how the mainstream sees Haitian society by promoting positive Haitian images.
FEATURE FILM: The Life of Yuli (Si Dios Quiere, Yuli), Directed by Jean Jean. This film tells the story of a Haitian woman who lived in the Dominican Republic for more than 35 years, fighting to raise her children with dignity while dealing with her precarious immigration status. The child, who made Yuli cross the border way back in the 80's is back and finds out that his mother is still in peril. What makes us belong to a place? How are links made between the land and its people? Jean Jean is an awarding winning filmmaker and actor and an emerging voice of contemporary Haitian cinema in Latin America.
