State of Entertainment Industry Conference to Discuss Hollywood Without Borders

Work is underway planning for the fifth annual State of the Entertainment Industry Conference, presented by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Variety. The conference is the pre-eminent local forum that focuses on the importance of the Entertainment Industry to California and steps that need to be taken to keep it healthy.

The conference will be held at Loews Hollywood Hotel on Wednesday, November 30th. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the sessions running from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The conference includes breakfast and lunch. Co-chairs are Sharon Keyser, Senior VP, Real Estate, Government & Community Relations for Paramount Pictures, and Doug Troy, COO/CFO of Trailer Park. Producer Vin Di Bona will once again Emcee the conference.

The theme selected for the 2016 conference is “Hollywood Without Borders”. It will again feature messages from public officials and industry experts. Amy Lemisch of the California Film Commission will provide an update on the California film tax credits program. The Commitment to California Award will again be presented to Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix. The award recognizes a leader in the entertainment industry who has shown by their actions support for the California Film Industry. Last year’s honoree was Roy Price of Amazon Studios.

This year, a special panel discussion will hone in on the topic “Hollywood Without Borders – the Global Entertainment Industry”. The panel is expected to discuss why films and TV shows must play well in an increasing number of global markets to achieve real success. They will also discuss which new markets are representing the best growth opportunities and which non-scripted formats and scripted series are gaining traction around the world.

Debra Birnbaum, Executive Editor of Variety will be moderating a panel on "Hollywood Without Borders: The Global Entertainment Industry." Panelists include Brent Montgomery, Chief Executive Officer of ITV America; Dana Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer of Skydance Productions; Jason Goldberg, President/TV of STX Entertainment, and Michael Grindon, President of Worldwide Television Distribution, Legendary TV.

The program also includes a panel on Film Tax Credits and a session on Music Industry Spotlight. Additional confirmed speakers include Paul Audley, President of FilmL.A., Inc.; California State Senate President ProTempore Kevin de León; and L.A. City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell.

Sponsors to date include Variety as the presenting sponsor, with the Hollywood Museum in the Historic Max Factor Building as the platinum level sponsor.
