Entertainment Industry Takes Center Stage
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Conference to Focus on Keeping Jobs in Hollywood
Highlighting the Value of Hollywood’s Entertainment Industry to Los Angeles and California
Hollywood, CA, November 7, 2013-The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is preparing to hold the second annual State of the Entertainment Industry Conference. The conference is the pre-eminent local forum that focuses on the importance of the Entertainment Industry to California and steps that need to be taken to keep it healthy.
The conference will be held on Tuesday, November 12th, at Loews Hollywood Hotel, 1755 N. Highland Avenue. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the sessions running from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The conference includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Co-chairs are Paul Audley, president of FilmL.A., Inc. and Chris Barton, executive vice president of Sunset-Gower, Sunset-Bronson Studios. The conference this year is again being presented by Variety. Reservations can be made online at www.hollywoodchamber.net/events. Admission is $125. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $1,000.
The Hollywood Chamber has been advocating for many years on behalf of the Entertainment Industry and critical issues such as runaway productions, film tax incentives, piracy that have impacted on Hollywood’s economy. “We have been working for six months to put together the most comprehensive program on the issues and opportunities affecting this industry,” said Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber. “We are delighted with the high caliber of speakers and public officials who will be present.”
The conference will feature an address by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Also on the program as a keynoter will be L.A.’s newly appointed “film czar” Tom Sherak. State Senator Kevin DeLeon and State Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra will both be on hand to discuss the strategy and challenges of getting a new film incentives ordinance passed in 2014 by the State legislature. This year’s ‘Commitment to California Award’ will be presented to actor Michael Chiklis and to screenwriter and television producer Shawn Ryan. Producer Vin Di Bona will again be the emcee.
Kevin Klowden, director of the California Center and Managing Economist for the Milken Institute will preview their latest study, “Job Flight – the Continued Impact of Disruptive Technologies and Competition on California’s Film Production Industry.”
Three panels will provide a detailed look at the industry. The first panel will focus on “Keeping Jobs In California.” Audley of FilmL.A. will moderate with panelists: Randy Baumberger of Paramount Pictures, Amy Lemish of the California Film Commission, Ilyanne Morden Kichaven of SAG/AFTRA, and Eileen Ige-Wong of 20th Century Fox TV.
The second panel will discuss the “Digital Hollywood Renaissance.” Moderating that panel will be reporter Andrew Wallenstein of Variety. Panelists include: Barry Blumberg of Defy Media, Lance Sloane of Warner Bros., Mark Terbeek of Greycroft, and Chris M. Williams of Maker Studios.
The final panel will take a look at “Entertainment 2025 and Beyond.” David Cohen of Variety will moderate. Panelists will include: Shane Archiquette of Hitachi Data Systems, Ted Schilowitz of Red Digital Cinema, Brent Weinstein of UTA and David A. Weitzner of USC.
